Mariam Rong, a former Israeli civil service employee, said her husband was killed after being kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists who opened fire.

“While our husband tried to stop the kidnappers, they shot and killed him without stopping their attack,” she said.

She told the Tel Aviv daily Haaretz Tuesday that her husband “did not ask ‘Why are you shooting me?’ to the kidnappers, who only wanted his money.”

“He stood up to the terrorists and saved himself and his friends,” she said. “He took the bullets and ran away with no one chasing him.”

Israel has a long history of employing kidnappers, who are notorious for using deadly force after a ransom is paid.

At least 10 Israelis have been kidnapped by Palestinians in recent years, but the deadliest attack was at the Israeli Embassy building in Benghazi, Libya, where a U.S. ambassador and three others were killed in September 2012.

In addition, six hostages were killed in hostage-taking attempts last year.

In August, 12 Israeli men, one of whom was an ex-Israeli soldier, were kidnapped from the West Bank, apparently in retaliation for a failed hostage-taking attempt at a Palestinian home in the same region.

In June an Israeli Arab gunman was killed when Israeli military forces rescued four Israeli men in a shootout at a West Bank outpost where 10 Israelis were taken captive in February 2014.

Earlier this month Israeli forces uncovered a car loaded with Israeli tourists from France who were kidnapped from the Sinai Peninsula earlier that month.
